is just an underground version of Adelaide’s O -bahn for cars

Yeah I still can’t figure out if this is just a WIP or what? I’m guessing they got a little too

No.
Adelaide’s O- bahn makes sense.

Elon’s thing might make sense too, if say you used buses to increase carrying capacity, maybe even string a bunch together. Maybe it would look something like this?
Seriously though, I think there is big potential if we can further automate tunneling, making construction much cheaper, and I hope Musk could lead to that. You would need to make it very cheap to tunnel to have it make sense for private cars though, unless you only wanted to serve the super-rich, in which case we don’t need to be supporting M usk. If he can make tunneling cheaper though, that’s a big win.

That’s called a subway, already exists, and actually works. Elon has just built the worlds least efficient subway exclusively for car owners, what an innovation /s

I mean, sure. But please, let’s not compare the little hole in the ground Musk made to a fully compliant public transportation tunnel. No emergency exits, barely wide enough for a passenger car, and no realistic station strategy.
When people publish numbers saying that a tunnel costs “x” amount per mile, we need to keep in mind that it includes railing, emergency infrastructure, stations, engineering and design, etc.
Elon said the tunnel was 10 million for a mile, and that is a very low price... but we need to, again, keep in mind he’s trying to sell a product, and not necessarily figuring out how to build it. Heck, he even said that underground tunnels were much safer than surface buildings during an earthquake, which is not necessarily true nor something you should say lightly.

It’s basically that one scene where Jeremy Claskson drove a Twingo in a sewer system - without the stilts.

It’s just a 12 foot diameter utility tunnel with some poorly poured concrete curbs. It’s nothing to laud. While the idea is cool it needs to be about 10 times as big and have many super fast elevators or ramps for entry and exit.

St. Elon has already said how much he hates public transportation because it’s “crowded” (read: too close to poor people.)
I’ve seen it pointed out that it seems more like he wants stuff like this to be a private highway for rich people. and that his obsession with Mars is so he can go there with only the people he hand selects to get away from us vermin.

Yeah, he’s getting further and further removed from reality and the people who actually have to inhabit it.

Or, you know, we could just build a system of trains, trams, and buses...

You might even call it a subway?

Nah, then you’d get sued by the sandwich shop. Plus, like everything else Elon is involved in it needs to be a dumbass meme.
